The National Gallery is one of the world`s foremost arts institutions, housing a uniquely important collection of some 2,400 pictures which tell a coherent story of European art spanning seven centuries. The Gallery undertakes high-level research that it publishes through a variety of media and as a national and international leader in its field it works in partnership with museums and academic institutions in the UK and overseas. As it approaches its 200th anniversary, the Gallery welcomes more than five million visitors a year and aims to engage the widest possible audience. A charitable organisation, the Gallery`s mission is to be a resource on art for the whole world to inspire present and future generations.

Philanthropy plays a significant role in the life of The National Gallery, raising substantial funds to support strategic goals, including the acquisition of artwork, outreach and educational projects and capital infrastructure. With plans for an expansion of programmes and activities; an increased emphasis on digital engagement; wider outreach across the UK; and enhancements to the Gallery`s buildings and the estate itself to improve the visitor experience and facilities, fundraising will form the cornerstone of an ambitious repositioning of the Gallery for contemporary audiences.

The Gallery is now looking for an outstanding individual for its new Director of Development who will be a member of the executive committee. Reporting to, and working closely with, the Director, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, patrons and other supporters, the Director will develop and implement a robust strategy to grow philanthropic income substantially for the Gallery, and to deliver a future capital campaign.

Candidates will be passionate about the mission and impact of The National Gallery. They will bring a successful track record of building effective, long-term, high-value philanthropic relationships together with evident fundraising and capital campaign experience.

Informal questions regarding the post should be directed to the Gallery`s appointed advisors, Perrett Laver via Milly Smith on Milly.Smith@perrettlaver.com or +44 (0)20 7340 6207.

The deadline for applications is 9am GMT on Monday 25th March.
